May: Check In
Finishing your first draft
A funny thing happens as you near the end of a book draft.
When you’re so close it feels inevitable that you’re going to finish, you start to think about the next phase. And what you’ve got to do after that. And how you’ll get published.
Suddenly the goal you’ve always reached for pales in comparison to the work that’s next.
You’re about to hit a major achievement, but you’re already downplaying it.
Finishing a first draft is a huge achievement for any writer at any point in their career.
Power through but resist the urge to downplay your work.
Here’s your mid-May check-in for the Book in a Year challenge.
